William De Peverel 
William was born about 1080 in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England.1 William's father was William "The Elder" De Peverel and his mother was Adeliza (Adeline) De Poitou. His paternal grandfather was Ranulph Peverell and his paternal grandmother is of England Ingelrica; his maternal grandfather is Richard, Earl of Lancaster. He had three sisters named Adelise, Adelise and Maud. He was the second youngest of the four children. He died about 1153 in England.1 General Notes

William Peverel built Whittington Castle, a Norman Motte and Baileycastle after the demolition of a previous stronghold. His eldestdaughter, Mellet inherited the castle. She married Warin de Metz ofLorraine, the founder of the FitzWarines. They held the castle until1240 when it was taken by King John and its owner, Foulke FitzWarine wascalled an outlaw.
Another source says that the castle Whittington was originally built in845 by Welsh Prince Ynyr ap Cadfarch and was seized by Roger deMontgomery who gave it to Sir William Peveril (Peverell) of Peak. Thepresent castle dates to 1221 with the FitzWarins (see this line whichbegins with William's daughter Mellet).
