Gilbert was born about 1246 in <Of West Ayton, Yorkshire, England>. Gilbert's father is William (Gilbert) D' Aton Sir Knight, Lord Vesci and his mother was Isabel De Vere. His maternal grandparents were Hugh IV De Vere and Hawise De Quincy. He had a brother and a sister, named Gilbert D' and Isabel. He was the oldest of the three children.
