Thomas was born about 1193 in Ellesborough, Buckinghamshire, England. Thomas' father was William de Cantelou and his mother is Marcelina de Bracy. His paternal grandfather was Walter II de Cantelou; his maternal grandfather was Adulf de Bracy. He had four brothers and two sisters, named William II, Walter III, John, Nicholas, Isabel and Agnes. He is the third youngest of the seven children.-
