John was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania. John's father was Nathaniel Newlin and his mother was Mary Mendenhall. His paternal grandparents were Nicholas Newlin and Elizabeth Paggott; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Mendenhall and Joane Strode. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Nicholas, Nathaniel, Mary, Jemima, Keziah and Elizabeth. He died on February 10th, 1753 in Chester County, Pennsylvania.
