John Daniels was born about 1846 in Sargent Township, Coles County, Illinois. John Daniels' father was James M. McDowell and his mother was Eliza Daniels. His paternal grandparents were John McDowell and Catherine Hayes; his maternal grandmother was Vera la Vellier. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Levi, Allen Benton, Sarah Ann, Lucinda, Susan Ann, Lydia Ellen, Mahalia and Mary Jane. He died on December 29th, 1900 in Ottawa, La Salle County, Illinois. He was buried on December 31st, 1900 in Ottawa Cemetery, La Salle County, Illinois.-
