Samuel Aldrich was born on December 25th, 1825 in Ashton Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Samuel Aldrich's father was John Price Crozer and his mother was Sally L. Knowles. His paternal grandparents were John Crozier and Sarah Price; his maternal grandfather is James Gray Knowles. He had three brothers and a sister, named Robert H., James Lewis, George Knowles and Margaret. He was the third oldest of the five children.
