His paternal grandparents were James Cock and Sarah Clarke; his maternal grandparents were John Feakes and Elizabeth Priar. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, James, Henry, John, Mary, Elizabeth, Sarah and Amey. He had two half-brothers named Thomas and Samuel.
