William Brinton 
William was born on June 12th, 1670 in Nether Gornal/Gournell, Sedgeley, Staffordshire, England. William's father was William Brinton and his mother was Ann Bagley. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Brinton and Ann Biddle; his maternal grandparents were Edward II Bagley and UNKNOWN Olive. He had a brother and three sisters, named Edward, Ann, Elizabeth and Esther. He died at the age of 81 on August 17th, 1751 in Birmingham, Chester County, Pennsylvania. William Brinton and Jean (Jane) Thatcher Brinton were owners and builders
of Brinton House in 1704. William and Jean (Jane) are buried in the plot
near the house. According to BRANDYWINE BATTLEFIELD:MUSEUM: "The
Barns-Brinton House, the Brinton 1704 House, Brinton's Mill, Birmingham
Meeting, Old Kennett Meeting, Dilworthtown Inn, the John Chads House, and
Strode's Mill all stood in the path of the soldiers fighting in the
Battle of Brandywine. Old Kennett and Birmingham Meetings both served as
hospitals for the wounded."

Birmingham was founded 1686.
"History: Founded by William Brinton, the first settler of this area.
The first constable of the township was Brinton's son-in-law, John
Bennett. This was the site of the Battle of Brandywine." (Revolutionary

(British).

Mary Harris on 19 Dec 1998:
"William, born in 1670 in Worchestershire, married the girl next door,
Jane Thatcher, in 1690 in his father's cabin...After his father's death
in 1699, William the Younger became head of the family and in 1704, he
and his wife, Jane, built the house that still stands in Birmingham
township, Owned and maintained by the Brinton Family Association, the
Brinton 1704 house is a National Historic Landmark. Carefully restored
to its original state, the house is a period showpiece. Though by no
means luxurious by modern standards, the house was obviously the home of
a prosperous family of the times. In an age when window glass was taxed
by the pane, the mullioned windows in William's house must have cost a
mint! The numerous closets in the house are another seldom-seen
extravagance for homes of this period. And 'below-stairs', in the huge
family kitchen, the enormous hearth which dominates the room has a
built-in bread baking oven!"

(www.ancestrees.com/ancestor/d3/i0002161.htm): "In 1704, he built a Stone
House for his growing family of six children in Birmingham Twp. in what
is now Delaware Co., PA. It still stands today with walls 2 feet thick
and 27 leaded glass windows. It lies near the original temporary shelter
that he and his parents lived their first winter. In 1965 it was a
home/museum open to the public in Dilworthtown, PA."
