Dear Brother, I take present opertunity  of answering your kind let
te r.  I was glad to hear from you.  This leaves miz self and family we
ll hop ing it may retch (reach) in due time and find you in good health. C
harl y, I have nothin of interest to wright (write) on other than the peop
le a ir (are) through gethering there crops.  Times is very hard her
e. As usu al the election is all own hand but very quiet.  Well Charly I c
ant tell y ou what I will do yet.  I have never herd Andy or Tom (brother
s) say any h arm of you at all. I was at Andys last sunday. They air (ar
e) also wel l.  Give my respects to Dock and Emily (sister).  Charly I w
as delited (de lighted) with examiner and send you the journal again soo
n.  Rite (writ e) often and let me here from you. so I still remain your b

Note:  The note leads one to believe there was a family dispu
te of so me type.  Samuel Rea died the following year.    My father visit
ed the Ful ton, Mississippi area some years ago trying to find his grandfa
thers gra ve but never did.  He met some descendants of Andrew Rea, his gr
eat uncl e, and they said Andrew had lost a leg in the war.  Samuel was al
so in t he war and was apparently held prisoner in a Union prison camp f
or some pe riod of time.
