HISTORY OF JILEK ANCESTORS
On a cold winter night in the year of 1788, a tiny baby by the na
me of On drej Jilek was born to the former Katherine Hundl of Mahouse, C.S
.R. and h er husband, Frantik Jilek, in the village of Oslovice, near Prah
a, in Bohe mia, now Czechoslovakia. This Ondrej Jilek reached the a
ge of 67 years pas ing away in the year 1855. His occupation was farmin
g. To the union of Ond rej Jilek and his wife, Katherine Hundl Jilek, we
re born the following t en children: Jim, Mary, John, Katherine, Mike, Ann
ie, Theresia, Ann, Eliza beth and Adam Jilek. This Elizabeth Jilek was bo
rn on March 10, 1838, in O slovice, near the county seat of Netolice, in B
ohemia, now Czechoslovaki a, and is our great grandmother, kno
wn to us as Elizabeth Rajndl, and is t he mother of our grandfather, Fra
nk Jilek, Sr.
The house in which Ondrej Jilek was born was built in the 15th centur
y, a nd has always been known to all the kinfolk as "The Lepenka Zevnost
". T he walls are 18 inches thick and are made of stone and mortar and par
titio ned into rooms. Some of the rooms are used for living quarters whi
le the o thers are used to house the livestock and poultry. The cent
er of the build ing is used to store the implements and other belonging
s. The winteres a re very cold, so that is why the livestock and poultry m
ust be kept indoo rs in the winter. The house is still well preserved a
nd has been in posses sion of the Jilek ancestors since the 15th centur
y. The present owner of t he estate is Joseph Pesl, a distant cousin of ou
rs. Oslovice is one-ha lf hour walking distance from Netolice, a county se

randmother, Mary Fikac Jile k, was born September 10, 1859, in Malovia, Ne
tolice County, Bohemia, n ow Czechoslovakia. She was baptized by the Re
v. Fr. Vaclov Majer and her b aptismal sponsors were Jan and Eva Faktor. S
he was the daughter of Matej F ikac and Annie Faktor Fikac. Her paternal g
randparents were Jacob Fikac a nd Maria Madera Fikac. The maternal grandmo
