Her paternal grandparents were Englebert Haag and Martha Jane Elizabeth Owen; her maternal grandparents were Nicolas Oliver and Ellen (Ellenor) Warner. She had two brothers and a sister, named Oliver Englebert, Herschel Lawrence II and Evelyn Ethel. She is the second youngest of the four children.-
