ou nder, owner and operator of Bailey Funeral Home in Matoaka, WV, then m
ov ed to Princeton, Mercer Co., WV. The funeral home now is known as t
he Bai ley-Kirk Funeral Home, with the chapel being named in honor of Rola
nd Bail ey. The business today is owned and operated by his daughter, Shi
rley, h er husband and their son, David.
The Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton, WV (formerly Bailey Funeral H
om e) was first known as Wright & Bailey Undertakers....founded by Elbe
rt Wri ght and O.M. Bailey, Rowland's father and grandfather who had a sh
oe and h arness shop in the horse and buggy days of Matoaka. They were un
dertake rs on the side. Rowland took over the business in 1940. Rowland
's moth er was Bessie Wright.
‌Rowland Herbert and Naomi Pauline were married in a religious ceremony in 1936 in Mercer Co., West Virginia.1 They had a son and a daughter, named Billy Joe and Living.
