RICHA RD DE WYD EVILL, born about 1310 , was th e firs t me mbe r of the
Wydevill family of Gra fton (Re gis), Northants , t o a chieve m ore than
local prominence (g). He wa s in posses s ion of the f amily estates in
1345. He was j oint collector o f that county's share in the 30,000 sacks
o f wool granted t o the King as a sub sidy in 1347; in 1354, a
c ommis sioner t o enforce the Statu te of Labour ers , and of oyer and
termine r, &c., in N orthan ts, Bucks and Beds , 1358-62; 136 0- 62, act
ing
Sher iff, 1362 -68 a nd 1370-71 Hi gh Sheriff, of N orthants ; 1 361-7 0,
escheator in N orthan ts ; Knight of th e shi re in s even p arliam e nts
betwe en
1362and 1377; sur v eyor of the work s at Moor end castle (Pott erspury)

He ma rried, 1stly, --- - , and, 2 ndly, Eliz ab e th, daughter o f Sir
John
LYO NS of Wa rkworth, heir o f her brothe r John LYO NS and widow of Sir
Nicholas CHETW ODE. He appears to have b een li ving i nJ u ly 1378.
