suggested b y an undated dee d of Robert de Mor le , son of Randulf de C

r un and Ma ud (---), granting the rights o f himself a nd hi s mother in
cer tai n land. Randulf de Charun figures in th e account of t he sheriff
of
Norfolk in 1159, and in 1 166 he ld 3 knights ' fees of Hubert de Rye in
that county, 2 fe e s in Bucks, and one fee in Beds j ointly with Ri c ha
rd
FitzRa lph and O s ber t de Clinton. T he family of Charu n were earl y
as socia ted with Roydon. O d o de C harun, in th e reign of th e Conq
uer or,
ga ve to the p riory of Eye t w o-thirds o f the ti t hes of Gisl ingham,
S uffolk (about 5 miles south of R oyd on) , and ofRoydon.
