In 1131/2 G ilbert accoun ted for the plea s of Miles o f Gl ouc ester and

Payn fitz john, whose da ugh ter Cecily was to ma rry Ro ger, the eldest

and heir of M iles, i n or befor e M ay 1138 (Pi pe Roll). In the ret urn
of
1166, Gi lbert appear s as one of the knights of M arga re t de Bohun,
e v entual heir ess of Miles, en feoffe d by her father. He h eld ha lf a
knigh
t ' s fee, which fro m subseque nt evidence was at Culkerton. H e w as als

retu rned for one-third of a fee un der the Arch bi shop of York a nd on e
fe

u nder the Bishop of Worce ster (RBE ). When Ha meli n was abbot of St.
Peter 's , Gloucester (1148- 79) G i lb ert confirmed a grant t o St.
Pet er's
of land in Bro oktho rpe and La Ru gge ( in Standish) ( CPG). These
