Thanks, Joyce. I will look forward to hearing whatever
you find out. Your remark about his father's
birthplace prompted me to go back to some information
that I had received from Ann Hunt, another Kilcoyne
researcher. In the quote below, she is referring to
the family of the older Kilcoyne generation, the
father of Patrick, Thomas, and Edward:
"
Hi Julie,
Found Thomas Kilcoyne in 1870 census, West Virginia,
Harrison County, Simpson TWP, Page 234 or Ancestry.com
image #325. Shows Ann, Patrick and John.
[Census record shows Thomas(a rr laborer, was age 51,
Ann was 37, Patrick was 4 and born in D.C., John was 3
and born in PA."
Putting two and two together, it looks as though your
John Kilcoyne is the son of the 3-year-old JOHN
Kilcoyne in that census , rather than of Patrick
Kilcoyne. But hopefully the obituary will make it
clearer. If he does turn out to be the son of John,
you may want to get in touch with Ann Hunt, who is
very zealous in researching the Kilcoynes. I myself
am only connected through Patrick's wife Rosa
Corrigan, who is my great grandfather's sister but
could not resist learning more about the Kilcoynes,
partly because I really like the sound of that
surname.
This is the sort of puzzle that makes genealogy so
interesting!
Sincerely,
Julie
