The information presented here concerning Hawise is collected from many sources that seem to contradict one another. One source has Hawise marrying Walter de Braose in the year 1225, meaning that she must have been born around 1210 but goes on to say that her son, Payn, who was to inherit Kidwelly Castle, did not reach majority until 1270, making Hawise either too old to have been Payn's mother or meaning that there could not have been the earlier marriage.
