NATURALIZATION Papers of Fulton and Bedford Counties, PA, 974.87 p4n, Vol 5:
Gawn Logan date 1811
Thomas Logan date 1 Sept 1802

Tradition has it that he sold his passage across the ocean and landed in America as a bondsman. Also, tradition has it that his father was with Napoleon's army when it crossed the Alps-- from Alice Kendall Johnson 1912.
The parents of Thomas Logan 1764-1848 may never be known with certainty.

In the notes of Margaret Estelle Maslin (LDS film 476885) "Gwan Logan's Brother was Thomas, their father fought with Napoleon's army...the above mentioned Thomas moved to Derry twsp.(Now Londoner) Lancaster, PA 1744 and it believed he was father of Thomas Logan, B. 1764 who married Keziah Coffee. But in the notes and queries-CCLVIII there is a note "Logan--the death of the last survivor in the male line of the Logan family, in this locality, the venerable John Logan, who died Feb 16 1890, at the age of ninety years, gives us the opportunity of stating that Thomas Logan, the first of the family, settled in Derry township, now Londonderry, at an early date. He took up land (200 acres) November 20, 1744 and died on the farm Feb 21, 1788. He left a wife Hannah and the following children:
1. Thomas B 1759 D March 23, 1797
2. William B 1768 D Sept 27, 1814, married Barbara
3. John B 1764 D 1784
4. Margaret
5. Mary, married Samuel McCleery---
so it seems that the Thomas that settled in Derry was not the father of our Thomas since he had his own son Thomas. This agrees with Betty William Steele (a Descendant of Thomas-David) who states that in LDS film 1465910 and naturalization papers of Fulton and Bedford Counties PA (974.87 p4n) vol 5 that there are applications for citizenship...Logan Gawn native of Ireland-1802 and Thomas Logan Native of Ireland, settled in Air Twsp, dated 1802. After all, if they applied for naturalization they must not have been born here.
In 'Your Family Tree' PA, publ m vol 4 p 15--This magazine also claims Gwan and Thomas were sons of Patrick Logan.
In the family bible of Samuel Logan, son of Thomas and Keziah, it states Thomas Logan Sr. born March 4, 1764. So somebody either didn't know Thomas's fathers name(is it likely Samuel didn't know his grandparents names?) or knew it but didn't record it except to say the name wasn't Thomas's. This is an assumption.
In the notes of Alice Kendall Johnston signed 1912 'Thomas and Gwan were brothers who came to this country together. Gwan settled on what is known as Judge Logan farm. Thomas and Gwan's father was with Napoleon's army when it crossed the Alps'. But there are a couple of problems with this; first, Thomas's brothers name was Gawn not 'Gwan and they didn't arrive together, Thomas was here first because he was married in Hagarstown, Maryland in 1788 and Gawn Logan was born county Derry Ireland in 1771 and arrived Newcastle in 1800 with his wife Eleanor and one child. From the History of Bedford, Somerset and Fulton Co. by Walterman Watkins (974.87 h2w). So, it seems that there is room for error in the notes of Alice Kendall Johnston.
