Catherine was born in 1576 in Coigeach, Assynt, Sutherland, Scotland. Catherine's father was Torquil Conneich MACLEOD and her mother was Margaret MACDONALD. Her paternal grandparents were Roderick MACLEOD and Janet MACKENZIE; her maternal grandparents were Angus MACDONALD and Janet (Or Mary) MACKENZIE. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Torquil, John, Neil, Elizabeth, Florence, Margaret and Janet. She was the third youngest of the eight children.-
