William's father was Hugh DE MORTIMER and his mother was Maud LE MESCHINES.  His paternal grandfather was Hugh DE MORTIMER; his maternal grandparents were William LE MESCHINES and Cecily DE ROMILLY. He had three brothers named Roger, Ralph and Hugh.
