Walter was born about 1092 in Folkingham, Lincolnshire, England. Walter's father was Gilbert De Gand (Gaunt) and his mother was Alice De Montfort (Morfort). His paternal grandparents were Ralph De Gand and Gisele UNKNOWN; his maternal grandparents were Hugh De Montfort and Alice De Beauffou. He had two sisters named Felia and Emma. He was the youngest of the three children. He died in 1139.-
