Katherine was born in 1310 in Lea Hall, Preston, Lancashire, England. Katherine's father was Sir Richard Houghton and her mother was Sibyll de Lea. Her paternal grandparents were Adam Hoghton and Aurelia Howick; her maternal grandparents were William de Lea and Clemence de Banastre. She had a brother and a sister, named Sir Adam and Sibyl. She was the youngest of the three children.-
