Nicholaus Willems was born in 1836 in Rorichum, Ostfriesland, Germany. Nicholaus Willems' father was Hinrich Hindkerk Willems Willemssen and his mother was Mareka Antoni Hassebroek. His paternal grandparents were Willem Janssen Willemssen and Frauoke Janssen Bruns; his maternal grandparents were Antoni David Hassebroek and Etje Janssen. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Jan Hindkerk, Ulfert Hinrich, Harm Hinrich, Hinderk Wilhelm, Etje and Frauoke. He was the third youngest of the seven children.General Notes
