Manfred was born on October 5th, 1918 in Melrose, Wisconsin. Manfred's father was George Washington Thompson and his mother was Emma Börreson. His paternal grandparents were George Alexander II Thompson and Julia Emoline Levis; his maternal grandparents were Berndt Börresson and Ahne (Anna) Andersdatter. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Harlon, LaVerne Edwin, Ruth Arlene, Ardyth Elaine and Living.-
