Joan was born about 1294 in Haworth, Yorkshire, England. Joan's father was Sir William De Dacre and her mother was Joan Garnet. Her paternal grandparents were Ranulph De Dacre and Joan de Multon; her maternal grandfather was Benedict Garnet. She had five brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Robert, Hugh, Sir Randolph, Ralph and Elizabeth. She was the youngest of the seven children.-
