Egeline was born in 1287 in Okehampton, Devonshire, England.  Egeline's father was Hugh de Courtenay and her mother was Alinore le Despencer.  Her paternal grandparents were John de Courtenay and Isabelle De Vere; her maternal grandparents were Sir Hugh le Despencer and Aliva Basset. She had four brothers and five sisters, named Hugh, Philip, Thomas, Robert, Eleanor, Margaret, Avelina, John and Alice.  She was the second youngest of the ten children.  She died at the age of 48 on October 10th, 1335 in Middleton, Norfolk, England.

They had a son and a daughter, named Robert and Eleanor Isabelle.
