Rachel was born on October 25th, 1762. Rachel's father was John VanCleave and her mother was Mary Shepherd. Her paternal grandparents were Aaron Van Cleef-VanCleave and Rachel Schenck; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Sheperd and Elizabeth Van Meter. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Aaron, Benjamin, John, Leah, Elizabeth, Sarah and Nancy. She had two half-brothers named Peter and David.-
