William was born in of,St Donat's,Glamorganshire,Wales. William's father was Edward Stradling Sir Knight and his mother was Ffelis "Gwyn" Kemeys. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Stradling and Jonet Mathew. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named James, Jenkin, John "Gwyn", Blanche, Bridget, Cecily, Elsbeth I, Elsbeth II, Joan and Mary.
