His paternal grandparents were Charles Pierson and Sally Weathers; his maternal grandparents were Jacob Clinch and Jean Clinch. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Bartholomew, James Weathers, William C., George Washington, Henry Clinch, Frances, Nancy, Sally and Casendoneia.
