II was born about 1021. II's father was II Richard and his mother was Dame De Lodeve And Montbrun Rixinda. His paternal grandparents were I Richard and Senegunde De Beziers; his maternal grandparents were I Berenguer and Garsenda Of Besalu. He was an only child. Vicomte of Gievaudun, Milhaud, Carlat and Rodeve. Berenger was present 29 Feb 1051, when Hugh de Roverge, Comte de Roverge, and his mother the Contesse Richarde, made a gift to Conquer Abbey. He was named in a letter of Pope Gregory VII, dated 12 Apr 1080, complaining that he had refused the homage which he owed to the Abbey of Curillac.
