Adam I was born in 1095 in Skelton, Yorkshire, England. Adam I's father was Robert deBrus III Lord of Annandale and his mother was Agnes Paynel. His paternal grandparents were Ld. Adam (Adelm) Brus and Emma Ramsey; his maternal grandparents were Fulk Paynel and Beatrice FitzWilliam. He had a sister named Agatha. He was the older of the two children.
