Alice was born about 1088 in Hertford, Hertfordshire, England. Alice's father was Ranulph de Meschines and her mother was Lucia de Taillibois. Her paternal grandparents were Ralph de Meschines and Maud; her maternal grandparents were Earl of Mercia Algar and Aelfgifu. She had a brother named Randulph. She was the older of the two children.

Roger was born in 1116 in Tunbridge Castle, Kent, England. He died at the age of 57 in 1173 in Oxfordshire, England. He was buried in Eynsham Priory, Oxfordshire, Englad.
