Etienne I, known as Tete-Hardi, was born in 1066 in Bourgogue, France.  Tete-Hardi's father was Count William I deBurgundy and his mother was Stephenie Etienne deLongwy.  His paternal grandparents were Count Renaud I deBurgundy and Judith Princess of Normandy; his maternal grandparents were Adalbert III Duke of Upper Lorraine and Clemence deFoix. He had a brother and three sisters, named Raymond of, Ermentrudeof, Gisela and Sibylle.  He was the second youngest of the five children.  He died in Bourgogue, France.
