Pepin II was born in 0635 in Heristal, Liege, Belgium. Pepin II's father was Anisgise Mayor of Austrasia and his mother was Beggue of Brabant. His paternal grandparents were Saint Arnoul Bishop of Metz and DodeClothilde De Heristal; his maternal grandparents were Pepin of Austrasia and Itte of Landen. He was an only child. Pepin of Heristal, who gained control and founded the monarchy, which wasenlarged by Charlemagne, and was the founder of the Carlovingian line ofKings. He was Duke of Brabant in 685 and Duke of the Austrasian Franks in680.
