Anna was born in 1024 in Kiev.  Anna's father was Prince Yaroslav I (The Wise) de Kiev and her mother was Princess Anna Ingigred Sweden.  Her paternal grandparents were Vladimir I Grand Duke of Kiev and Anna of Byzantine; her maternal grandparents were Olaf III Skötkonung King of Sweden and Astrid Inegrid of the Obotrites. She had two sisters named Dobronega Maria Viscountess of and Anastasiya Agmunda Yaroslavna Princess Of.  She was the youngest of the three children.
