Rognvold, known as The Mighty, was born about 0830. The Mighty's father was Earl Eystein (Glumra) Ivarsson and his mother was Ascrida (Aseda) Rognvaldsdatter Countess of Oppland. His paternal grandparents were Ivar Halfdansson Earl and Eysteinsdatter; his maternal grandparents were Rognvald Olafsson and Mrs-Rognvald Olafsson. He had a brother named Rognvald I.
