Ralph was born in 1100 in Dudley, Worchester, England. Ralph's father was Fulk Paynel and his mother was Beatrice Fitzwilliam. His paternal grandparents were William Paynel and Lesceline; his maternal grandfather was William Fitzansculf. He was an only child. He died before 1153.
They had a daughter named Hawise.
