Louis I, known as "The Pious", was born in August 0778 in Casseneuil, , France.  "The Pious"'s father was Emperor Charlemagne and his mother was Empress Hildegard.  His paternal grandparents were King Pepin ("The Short") France and Countess Berthe Bertrade De Laon; his maternal grandparents were Count Gerold I deVinzgau and Duchess Imma deSwabia. He had a brother named Pepin.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died at the age of 61 on June 20th, 0840 in Near, Ingelheim, Rhinehessen, Hesse.  He was buried in Cathbedrale D'aachen, Aachen, Rheinland, Prussia.
