Elizabeth was born about 1032 in Kiev, Kiev, Ukraine. Elizabeth's father was Yaroslav I 'The Wise' Of Kiev Wladimirowwitsch Prince of Kiev and her mother was Ingigerd (Anna) Olafsdottir Princess of Sweden. She had five brothers and a sister, named Vladimir Yaroslavich Of, Izyaslav I Dmitrij Of, Svyatopolk I (II), Wsewolod I Of, Igor and Anastasia. She was the second youngest of the seven children.
Elizabeth and Harald III Haardraada were married in a religious ceremony in 1045. They had a daughter named Maria Hardraada.
