His paternal grandparents were Comte Geoffroy I deGastinois and Beatrice deMacon; his maternal grandparents were Comte Foulques III D'Anjou and Hildegardeof Lorraine. He had a brother named Foulques IV "Rechin" Comte. He was the older of the two children. He died at the age of 58 in 1094.General Notes
