Alfred of England, known as The Great, was born in 0849 in Wantage, Berkshire, England..  The Great's father was King Aethelwulf of Eng. and his mother was Osburh of Isle of Wight.  His paternal grandparents were King Egbert of Wessex and Raedburh; his maternal grandparents were Oslac of Isle of Wight and Osburga. He had a brother and a sister, named Aethelred I of Wessex and Judith of Wessex.  He was the second oldest of the three children.  He died at the age of 50 on October 25th, 0899.  He was buried in Hyde.


The Great's family with Ealhswith (Alswitha) of Mercia

‌The Great and Ealhswith (Alswitha) of Mercia were married in a religious ceremony in 0868.  They had a son and a daughter, named The elder and Elfrida (Alfthryth) of England.
