Anciently England was invaded by successive migrations of Celtic races; under
the Romans from A.D. 43 to 410; divided into petty kingdoms during the period
before Egbert. Egbert spent much time in the Court of Charlemagne.

Roots: Egbert, born 775, died after 19 Nov. 838, son of Eahlmund, King of Kent. King of Wessex, 802-827, and was the first king of all England, 827-836; married Raedburh. The male line of kings descends from him to Edward the Confessor and the female line to the present time.
