Count Engelbert I of was born in 1236 in <Sittard,Limburg,Neth.>. Count Engelbert I of's father was Count Adolf I of Altena-Mark and his mother was Irmgard of Geldern. His paternal grandparents were Friedrich I Count Of Altena and Baroness Alveradis of Krieckenbeck-Millendonck; his maternal grandparents were Otto I Count Of Guelders-Züpten and Richardis Bavaria. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Count Eberhard of, Count Otto of, Bishop Gerhard of, Princess Richarda of and Princess Adelheid of. He was the third youngest of the six children. He died at the age of 41 on November 16th, 1277. He was buried in Cappenberg.1 General Notes
