Cynan ap was born about 0925 in Of Dynevor Castl,Llandilo,Carmarthenshire,Wales. Cynan ap's father was Hywel "Dda" ap Cadell and his mother was Elen verch Llywarch. His paternal grandparents were Cadell ap Rhodri and Mrs. Rheingar ap Rhodri; his maternal grandfather was Llywarch ap Hyfaidd.
