Rodrigo (D.)'s father was Gonçalo (D.) Rodrigues de Palmeira and his mother was Fruela (D.) Afonso.  His paternal grandparents were Rodrigo (D.) Forjaz Trastamar and Urraca (D.) Rodrigues de Castro; his maternal grandfather was Afonso (D.) de Celanova.  He was an only child.

They had a son named Pedro (D.) Rodrigues.
