Ptolemy II, Philadelphus was born in Isle of Cos,Egypt.1 Ptolemy II, Philadelphus' father was Ptolemy I Soter "Savior", Pharoah of Egypt and his mother was Bernice I, Queen of Macedonia. His paternal grandparents were Lagos "The Rabbit" of Macedonia and Arsinoe I of Macedonia; his maternal grandparents were Lagos "The Rabbit" of Macedonia and Antigone Macedonia. He had a sister named Arsinoë II of. He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Karaunas, Magos, King of, Antigone and Antigone of. He died in Egypt.2 General Notes

was the son of Ptolemy I and Berenice I. Egypt held a firm grip on
Cyprus, Phoenicia, and Palestine. Ptolemy extended the Egyptian empire
into Nubia and the Arabian peninsula. At periods, Cyrenaica was also
under Egyptian control. It was during his reign that Egypt established
itself as the maritime power of the Mediterranean Sea, as a result of the
wars fought against the Seleucids. Ptolemy improved state control over
Egyptian agriculture. Culture prospered under Ptolemy, with rich
achievements centered around the court in Alexandria. The library of
Alexandria prospered under him, too. He has succeeded by his son, Ptolemy
III.
