His paternal grandparents were Crinan Grimas Ceanmor and Bethoc \ Beatrix Mcalpin; his maternal grandparents were Uchtred (Ughtred) Earl of Northumbria and Aelgifu Elgiva De Wessex. He had two brothers and a sister, named Gospatric I, Maldred and Sigrid Sigarith. He was the youngest of the four children. He had two half-brothers named Edmund and Edward.
