James Gaskin was born on April 25th, 1899 in Aynor, Horry Co., SC.1 James Gaskin's father was James Stephen Lewis and his mother was Freddie Dawsey. His maternal grandparents were Cyrus B. Former state lawmaker James G. Lewis dies
CONWAY - James Gaskin Lewis, 96, a former mayor of Conway and former
state legislator, died Thursday in a local hospital. The funeral will be
at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church of Conway. Burial, directed by
Goldfinch's Conway Chapel, will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
Mr. Lewis was born in Aynor, a son of Stephen J. Lewis and Freddie Dawsey
Lewis. He was a graduate of Aynor High School and Clemson University. He
was a former teacher with Aynor schools and a past superintendent of the
Horry County school system. He was a member of the Board of Directors of
Conway National Bank, a member and former president of the Conway Kiwanis
Club and a past board member of Santee Cooper. He was the past operator
and owner of the Farm Implement Company of Conway. He was an active
member of First Baptist Church.
Surviving are several neices [sic] and nephews.
