His paternal grandparents were John Sheridan Garrett and Rebecca Jane Fowler; his maternal grandparents were Hiram Bush and Sarah Bush. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named Prescott, John, William Henry, J. Walter, Thomas Leroy, Daniel Lafayette, Wiley Jackson, Sarah, Mary Nancy, Rebecca and Ola G.. He was the second youngest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 71 on December 27th, 1967 in Okaloosa County, Florida.
