James DeVane 
James was born on August 1st, 1757 in New Hanover Co., NC.1 James' father was John, Sr. DeVane and his mother was Ann Larkin. His paternal grandparents were Thomas DeVane and Margaret Conde. He had a brother named John, Jr.. He was the younger of the two children. He died at the age of 82 on March 13th, 1840 in New Hanover Co., NC.1 General Notes

Devane, Esq., aged 86 years. Mr. Devane was born and raised in New
Hanover
County. In our struggle for Independence, he took a firm and determined
stand on the side of his country, and has always been an active supporter
of
the Democratic principles of our Government. As a citizen, he was kind
and
charitable; as a father, faithful in the discharge of his domestic
duties."
